Table on the Marsh (2010)
Walthamstow Marsh, London
Table on the Marsh is a project exploring the potential of public space as a place for communal activity. It uses the dining table, which has a inherently social function to facilitate experiences between people in public space.
The table is made from green oak and has patterns collected from local residents as well as a chessboard and backgammon set carved into the surface. It was designed and made by architect Tabitha Pope and Giles Thaxton.
The project was funded by UnLtd and Lee Valley Parks.
