Quarantimes (2020)

During lockdown in the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020, I worked with el Warcha London to create art with residents of Harringay Homes. New to the project and the community, myself and collaborator Eva Freeman devised ways to get to know residents. After first attempting to collaborate with residents to create an online youtube show, we soon found out most residents did not have access to the internet. Realising we needed to know residents and their needs more, but not being allowed to knock at their doors because of covid restrictions we eventually wrote over 100 unique letters to every single resident. We sent newsletters called 'Quarantimes' instead of youtube shows and eventually established a small collective of residents who came together to create a series of brightly coloured flags installed on the outside of the building. A public display of hope to the surrounding area during the difficult times of the pandemic.
