A Workers’ Inquiry (2018)
FACT, Liverpool
A Workers’ Inquiry was written by Karl Marx in 1880. It is 101 questions originally published in the French magazine Revue Socialiste inviting workers to respond to questions about their working conditions.
Using a mobile research station I was asking participants two questions
1)What would a workers’ inquiry be in 2018?
2) What has changed since 1880?
Participants were then invited to edit the original document. Through making direct links with the conditions of the Industrial Revolution period the document acts as both a provocation and method of consciousness raising.
